The game we now call "bingo" has been played since at least the late 1700s, but back then it had a different name. How long ago do you think we started calling it "bingo"?The game we know as "bingo" has been around since at least the 1770s, when it was played as a British children's game called "lotto" (that name comes from the Italian word for "lottery.") The original American version was called "keno" or "po-keno." At first, the word "bingo" wasn't associated with the game. In the 1920s, people started using that word to announce any unexpected event or instant result (as in "Bingo! I found a dollar!"). But soon players of bingo-type games began calling out "bingo" when they won, and before long people started called the game "bingo" too.
