Unfortunately, "reprimand" is not the only way to criticize. Which of the following words is a synonym of "reprimand"?

There are lots of synonyms you can use when telling someone he or she blew it. "Reprimand," "admonish," "rebuke" and "chide" are all appropriately critical for the task, but those words imply slightly different levels of scolding severity. "Rebuke" suggests a severe or stern criticism (as, "students rebuked for bad behavior"), and a "reprimand" is often a public rebuke (for example, "an athlete reprimanded for his unsportsmanlike behavior"). "Admonish" suggests a friendly warning (as in, "audience members admonished for talking during the movie"), and "chide" is generally used for mild scoldings (such as, "grandchildren chided for using bad table manners").
